Withdrawal of eks-distro kubernetes-csi sidecar images

TL;DR: the eks-distro upstream project is no longer producing the kubernetes-csi sidecar images

What is changing?

The eks-distro upstream project has discontinued including the kubernetes-csi sidecar images as part of the upstream project. This affects the following Chainguard images AND their FIPS variants:

• eks-distro-kubernetes-csi-external-attacher
• eks-distro-kubernetes-csi-external-provisioner
• eks-distro-kubernetes-csi-external-resizer
• eks-distro-kubernetes-csi-external-snapshotter
• eks-distro-kubernetes-csi-external-snapshot-controller
• eks-distro-kubernetes-csi-livenessprobe
• eks-distro-kubernetes-csi-node-driver-registrar

These sidecar images were originally vendored in the eks-distro project. The source of these sidecars is the kubernetes-csi project, which will continue to produce these projects. 

Why is Chainguard making this change?

The eks-distro upstream project is no longer bundling the kubernetes-csi sidecar projects as of the v1.33-10 release. 

How will this affect me?

These previously bundled sidecar images will no longer receive any further updates or new versions.

When do I need to migrate?

We recommend migrating as soon as possible as these existing images are no longer getting any updates.

What do I need to do?

For users to continue getting updated packages, including security fixes, users should migrate from the bundled images to the equivalent kubernetes-csi image or the FIPS variant where applicable, which will provide the same kubernetes-csi binaries:
