TL;DR: Chainguard is decommissioning the LocalStack image. LocalStack's open-source repository has been archived, and the project has switched to closed source. Chainguard will continue publishing updates for 30 days, after which no further updates will be made. Existing entitled customers will retain access to the last version of the image published by Chainguard.

What is changing?
LocalStack has archived its open-source community version, and transitioned to a closed-source model. As a result, Chainguard will be decommissioning the cgr.dev/chainguard/localstack image and will no longer build or publish updates for it.
Why is Chainguard making this change?
There are no further updates being published for the LocalStack community edition, and the source repository has been archived. LocalStack has replaced it with a new offering that requires account-based authentication and has additional licensing conditions, however the source code for this is not available.
How will this affect me?
Chainguard will use commercially reasonable efforts to continue to build the last released version of LocalStack until May 20th, after which we will no longer publish updates for it. You will retain access to the last build of the image, but it will receive no further updates going forward.
What do I need to do?
If you are currently using the Chainguard LocalStack image, we recommend evaluating LocalStack's own commercial offering or an alternative tooling solution. Please reach out to your account team if you need access to a replacement image.
